Traditional rope lashing

Traditional Kapa Patterns

Ka Papa Lo’i O Kanewai is located on campus at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and is a traditional Hawaiian hale wa’a, or canoe home. As with all traditional Hawaiian architecture, this hale is closely integrated with its landscape. Through the use of natural materials and the centralization of the ahupua’a system, the hale channels the essence of Hawaii. Volunteering at the Hale Wa’a not only gives an experience of being connected with the aina, it gives back to her. If you are interested in getting involved, click here.
